Title
PIT MANEUVER into field flips vehicle - Suspect flees across the farm /Arkansas State Police pursuit
Description
Trooper's Report:
On May 15th, 2026, at approximately 4:53 P.M., I was stationary on the northbound shoulder of United States Highway 49 just
south of the United States Highway 79 intersection, monitoring traffic. I observed a gold Ford Fusion traveling southbound on
United States Highway 49 with window tinting that appeared to be below the legal limit. After the vehicle passed my location, it
also drove across the fog line. I turned around to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, and it appeared to accelerate quickly. I
used front, same-direction radar and confirmed the vehicle's speed increased to 107 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per
hour zone.
I activated my patrol unit's lights and sirens, and the suspect vehicle drove into the opposite lane and passed a vehicle that
was traveling southbound. After about two miles, the suspect vehicle pulled to the right shoulder and stopped. I exited my
patrol unit and began giving verbal commands. The driver, later identified as Jshawn Johnson, failed to
obey my commands and fled southbound above the posted speed limit. The suspect vehicle began passing cars on the right
shoulder and using the northbound lane to pass cars with oncoming traffic. Due to JOHNSON’S manner of driving and lack of
concern for the safety of his passenger and the public, I attempted to perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI). As I
positioned my patrol unit for the TVI, JOHNSON aggressively applied the vehicle's brakes to avoid contact with my patrol
vehicle. I swerved to the right of the vehicle, and JOHNSON swerved towards me, attempting to force me off the roadway. I had
to drive partially into the ditch to keep JOHNSNON from hitting my patrol unit. JOHNSON continued fleeing southbound,
traveling in both the south and northbound lanes. As I was attempting another TVI, JOHNSON again aggressively braked, and
it placed our vehicles side by side. As JOHNSON began to accelerate, I was able to perform a successful TVI, contacting the
left rear quarter panel of the suspect vehicle with the right front of my patrol unit, causing the vehicle to rotate counterclockwise
and travel off the roadway to the north, overturn, and come to a stop.
JOHNSON and the front-seat passenger, later identified as Dennis Thompson, exited through the front
passenger door. I gave verbal commands to both occupants to stop.
JOHNSON did not comply and began fleeing east on foot.
I began pursuing JOHNSON on foot and was unable to apprehend him after about 200 yards. I then went back to THOMPSON,
who was still near the suspect vehicle, and placed him in handcuffs.
EMS was called to check THOMPSON’s well-being. THOMPSON refused medical assistance when they arrived.
During a search of the suspect vehicle, JOHNSON’s Arkansas Identification card was located inside a wallet in the driver’s
floorboard that also contained JOHNSON’s social security card.
Baldwin’s Wrecker Service took possession of the vehicle, and THOMPSON was released. Arkansas State Police K9 and air
support were called in an attempt to apprehend JOHNSON. After an extensive search for JOHNSON, we were unsuccessful.
An affidavit for the arrest of JOHNSON has been filed through the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office.
