When a School Zone Interaction Takes an Unexpected Turn

Officers responded to a call on May 8, 2025 of an alleged assault on a school crossing guard. The crossing guard said that she had entered the road way after blowing her whistle. An approaching white sedan stopped, but then proceeded forward toward her as she stood in the crosswalk. The driver yelled for her to get out of the way, and the crossing guard said the sedan's bumper then struck her in the legs. The sedan drove away, but the guard was able to get the vehicle's license plate. Officers tracked the sedan to a nearby home and spoke to the driver in the driveway. The woman denied the allegations but was arrested. She was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Motor Vehicle (Florida Statute § 784.045). She'd plead no contest to the reduced charge of Reckless Driving.
