Title
High Speed Pursuit - Driver runs and hides IN DUMPSTER after PIT - Found by Arkansas State Police
Description
Trooper's Report:
On Monday, January 30, 2023, at approximately 0400 hours, I initiated a pursuit with a gray Hyundai Elantra displaying Florida
license plate: 64BPXV. While traveling I 430 North near the Shackelford exit, I pulled up next to the vehicle in question. Before
activating my emergency lights, the vehicle took off and began traveling over 100 mph on wet roads.
At this point, I activated my emergency lights and began pursuing the vehicle. We continued north passing I 630, where
speeds reached 115 mph. As we approached the Rodney Parham exit, I attempted a PIT. This was unsuccessful, as the
driver of the Elantra hit his brakes as I was making contact with the left rear portion of his vehicle. As we approached the I 430
river bridge, the suspect vehicle slammed on it's brakes, trying to cause an accident. We continued over the river bridge and
approached the Maumelle exit. At the last moment possible, the driver took the Maumelle exit ramp in an attempt to lose me.
When the vehicle reached the top of the ramp, it attempted to turn left onto SH 100. The vehicle took the turn too fast, causing
a collision with the curb on the north side of the highway. The impact damaged the right front wheel, leaving the vehicle
inoperable.
Once the vehicle came to a stop, the driver, later identified as Alonzo Thompson, exited the vehicle and began running east on
foot. At the same time, the front seat passenger (Antonio McLendon) exited the vehicle and attempted to flee but stopped.
Once McLendon was secured in the back of my patrol car, I removed a second passenger (Kristen Bundy) from the back seat.
A short time later, North Little Rock PD, along with Trooper Ellison and Trooper Smith, arrived and began searching for the
driver (Thompson).
While searching the Circle K area, Trooper Ellison found Thompson hiding in a dumpster.
After a thorough search of the vehicle, 365 Towing took possession. Trooper Smith transported Antonio McLendon to the
Pulaski County Detention Center where he was arrested on Felony warrants. After releasing Kristen Bundy, I transported
Alonzo Thompson to Springhill Baptist where he was medically cleared. Thompson was turned over to Trooper Van Schoyck
before being transported to PCDC, where he was booked without incident.
