Dodge Challenger HIGH SPEED PURSUIT - Gets away from local PD but NOT Arkansas State Police #pursuit
Description
Trooper's Report: On 4/18/2023 at approximately 0200 hours, Conway PD advised that they were in pursuit of a white Dodge Challenger bearing AR LPN BRMAG, eastbound on Interstate 40, approaching Pulaski County. Moments later, Conway PD lost sight of the vehicle and discontinued the pursuit. Mayflower PD located the vehicle and engaged in a brief pursuit before losing sight of it. While continuing east on Interstate 40, Mayflower PD located a vehicle that had been struck by the fleeing Dodge Challenger. At approximately 0206 hours, I, TFC Williams, observed the white Challenger (V-1) traveling eastbound on Interstate 40 near Interstate 430, still traveling at 110 mph. I initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and it fled at speeds over 150 mph. Trp. Neal was secondary for approximately two miles before his governed vehicle prevented him from keeping up with the pursuit. While approaching mile marker 152, V-1 turned off the lights and continued eastbound, taking Interstate 30 westbound. V-1 then took the Curtis Sykes Rd exit, where Trp. Ellison conducted an intentional intervention using the passenger side of his TVI bumper to strike the passenger side of the Dodge Challenger in an attempt to disable the vehicle. The impact forced Trp. Ellison's TVI bumper into his passenger tire, disabling his unit. V-1 continued to traveling east along the service road to North Hills Rd where it turned south. While traveling south on North Hills Rd, a North Little Rock PD unit observed the pursuit and began to turn around to assist. As the North Little Rock PD unit began to turn around, V-1 came to a sudden stop and the driver (Brayden Barnes 5/20/99) and passenger (Cameron Thomas 7/15/2001) both fled from the vehicle, north through the grass to E 15th St. North Little Rock PD Officer W. Williams #4569 was able to apprehend Thomas at E 15th St and Hazel St as he attempted to climb over a fence. I continued chasing Barnes west along E 15th St where he turned north on Hickory St. Before reaching E 16th St, Barnes stopped running and surrendered without further incident. Trp. Neal arrived on scene to assist with securing both suspects. While searching Barnes, I located a small plastic bag containing approximately 5 grams of suspected marijuana in the front pocket of his pants. Barnes stated that it was “weed.” While searching the vehicle, I observed both vehicle seats to have the seatbelts still buckled with wear on them, indicating that both occupants were sitting on top of the seatbelts. Barnes was transported to North Little Rock PD where he was turned over to Conway PD for their initial felony fleeing charge. Phillips Towing was contacted to tow the Dodge Challenger and J Hook Towing was contacted to tow Trp. Ellison's unit to headquarters. Thomas was issued a court date for a warrant out of Searcy County and issued ASP citation 100A0577351 for fleeing on foot. Barnes was issued ASP citations 100A0577352 and 100A0577353 for driving with suspended license, no seatbelt, speeding, possession of Sch VI controlled substance, and fleeing on foot. The suspected marijuana from Barnes' pocket was placed into evidence at Troop A Headquarters awaiting submission to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
