SHOOTING SUSPECT causes a FIERY, CHAOTIC scene - Arkansas State Police, U.S. Marshals, & Pine Bluff
Description
Rickey Lee Ray, 35, of Bearden, was wanted in connection with an April 17 shooting in the 2100 block of West 30th Avenue in Pine Bluff. Units from Arkansas State Police, Arkansas Department of Corrections K-9 Unit, Pine Bluff Police and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office converged at Second Avenue and Walnut Street after a truck overturned in front of the Reynolds Center.
According to a news release from State Police, U.S. Marshals requested their assistance at about 2:45 p.m. in locating Ray, who reportedly fled on foot near Stagecoach Road and Interstate 530 in Jefferson County.
State Police say troopers located a vehicle associated with Ray near Dollarway Road and School Street. When troopers attempted a traffic stop, police say, the driver reportedly refused to comply and accelerated. That initiated a high-speed pursuit through business and residential areas that reached speed greater than 100 mph along Second Avenue.
The suspect vehicle collided with another passenger car at the intersection of Second Avenue and Walnut Street, causing the suspect’s vehicle to overturn, catch fire and come to rest on its roof, according to State Police. Troopers extinguished the fire and assisted sheriff’s deputies and Pine Bluff Police officers in removing Ray and another occupant from the suspect vehicle.
The occupants of the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
