Title
High Speed Pursuit at 130 mph - Kia Optima receives the PIT Maneuver before making it to Memphis
Description
Trooper's Narrative: On 2-5-23, 11:39 P.M., I was sitting stationary on the East Service Road at North 7th Street running LIDAR when I observed a dark colored passenger car traveling eastbound on I-40 at a high rate of speed. I locked the vehicle's speed at 85 M.P.H. in a 65 M.P.H. zone from a distance of 515 feet. As I pulled out onto the interstate, I observed the vehicle accelerate and begin passing other motorists in a reckless manner. As I approached the vehicle on the interstate, I activated my front radar and clocked the speed at 122 M.P.H.. The suspect vehicle continued southbound on I-55 and showed no regard for other motorists with his manner of driving. Once we got to the 2 mile marker, the suspect vehicle began slowing down. I gave the tag, AR ALC72L to dispatch and then I moved in for a PIT maneuver. I made contact with the left rear of the suspect vehicle by using the front right corner of my vehicle. The vehicle spun in a counter clockwise motion, striking the concrete center divider with the front of the vehicle. This disabled the vehicle and deployed both front airbags. I exited my patrol vehicle and ordered the driver, Quodarious Mitchell, from the vehicle where he was taken into custody. I then ordered the passenger, Dwight Starks, from the vehicle where he was taken into custody. I asked both occupants if they were ok and if they needed medical treatment. They both told me that they were unharmed. A search of the vehicle revealed a Glock 9mm pistol and an FN 9mm pistol. Neither the driver nor passenger showed to be a convicted felon. I ran Mitchell through ACIC/NCIC and he showed to be suspended out of Jonesboro for a failure to appear. Troop D Dispatch contacted the Jonesboro Police Department and confirmed that Mitchell had a valid misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear. The vehicle was inventoried and towed by B&D Towing. Starks was given possession of both firearms and was released from the scene with no charges. Mitchell was transported to the Crittenden County Detention Center where he was advised of a court date and time. A hold was placed on Mitchell for the Jonesboro Police Department. Charges: Speeding More Than 15 Over, Fleeing (Felony), Reckless Driving, Driving on a Suspended License.
