Title
Deputies rescued a couple whose jon boat capsized just under a mile offshore Saturday - 1.11.2025.
Description
On the chilly afternoon of Saturday, January 11th, deputies with the Marine and Environmental Lands Unit responded to a call from a citizen stating their jon boat had capsized, leaving them stranded in the water nearly a mile from shore. The couple reported that while taking a turn, an unexpected wave caught them off guard and flipped their boat. Deputies quickly located and rescued the couple from the water. Fortunately, the couple had a kept their water-resistant phone in a fanny pack, preventing it from sinking when the boat overturned and allowing them to call for help. Before heading out on your boat: Check weather and water conditions Ensure all required safety equipment is aboard and easily accessible Maintain multiple ways to call for help; phone, radio, distress signals Most importantly, wear your life jacket at all times - a stowed life jacket cannot help you when your boat overturns.
