FCSO Arrests Man Following Foot Pursuit
Description
On Thursday, Master Deputy Malta arrested Cameron Glass, 30, in Palm Coast following a brief foot pursuit into a home on Pine Haven Dr.
At approximately 3:20 p.m., MD Malta attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Malibu that had failed to come to a complete stop before making a right turn onto Belle Terre Parkway. MD Malta observed the driver, later identified as Cameron Glass, continuously looking in his rearview and side mirrors at the patrol vehicle with emergency lights and siren activated while refusing to pull over.
After travelling approximately two miles and making multiple turns without stopping it was apparent Glass was attempting to get away from M/D Malta.
Once Glass approached a home on Pine Haven Dr, he rushed to park in the driveway and exit his vehicle to flee inside the residence. M/D Malta parked and exited his vehicle at the same time and gave him a verbal command to stop.
Glass entered the residence on Pine Haven Drive before slamming the front door shut behind him. M/D Malta, who was still in fresh pursuit, chased the suspect on foot and kicked the door open, before witnessing Glass attempting to barricade himself in a bathroom.
While attempting to breach the bathroom door, M/D Malta observed Glass holding up his left arm to hold the door back while keeping his right arm and hand down as though he was attempting to discard something in the toilet. M/D Malta had reason to believe that Glass may have flushed narcotics down the toilet. Glass was then removed from the bathroom and taken into custody.
A search of Glass’s person and vehicle yielded a large amount of cash, totaling $3,794. While counting the money at the jail, a white powder-like substance was located on one of the bills. The substance was tested for cocaine and the test was presumptive positive for cocaine.
The female standing in the home’s driveway later told Sheriff Deputies that she knows Glass and did not want to press charges for Burglary.
“This poison peddler thought he was smooth by fleeing and locking himself in a bathroom,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Master Deputy Malta did a great job apprehending him. This is another reminder for criminals that if you run from us you will just go to the Green Roof Inn tired.”
Glass is facing charges of Fleeing and Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer with Lights and Siren Activated, and Resisting an Officer Without Violence. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and is out on $3,000 bond.
