Motorcycle rider (Honda VFR1200) flees Arkansas State Police at 130+ MPH - HIGH SPEED PURSUIT #chase
Description
Report:
On 5-16-2026 at approximately 1714 hrs, I, Trooper Blayn Lucas, was traveling eastbound on State Highway 321 - Spur near N
Bear Road. I observed a red sportbike-style motorcycle traveling westbound on State Highway 321 - Spur approaching me at a high rate of speed.
I activated the front antenna of my mobile radar and clocked the motorcycle's speed at 99mph in a posted 55mph zone. As the motorcycle passed me, it accelerated its speed. I activated the rear antenna of my mobile radar unit and clocked the motorcycle's speed at 108mph. I turned around, activated my emergency lights and siren, and attempted to catch
up to the motorcycle.
The motorcycle continued traveling westbound on State Highway 321 - Spur, reaching speeds of approximately 130mph in a posted 55mph zone. The motorcycle was passing other vehicles in no passing zones and driving into the oncoming traffic lane. The motorcycle turned northbound onto State Highway 321 from State Highway 321 - Spur.
The motorcycle again reached speeds of approximately 130mph in a posted 55mph zone. The motorcycle then turned westbound onto Campground Rd. from E State Highway 321. The driver of the motorcycle turned and looked back to see if I was still following him and then accelerated, reaching speeds of approximately 135mph in a posted 45mph zone. The driver of the motorcycle, later identified as Rory Smith II, pulled over and came to a stop at the intersection of Campground Rd. and S. Stagecoach Road. The license plate displayed on the motorcycle was an Arkansas license plate number, "543GK."
Smith was ordered off the motorcycle, where he complied and was taken into custody without further incident. During a search of his person, a baggie containing a white crystal-like substance was located in his right front pants pocket. With my training and experience, I identified this substance as methamphetamine. Smith was secured in the backseat of my patrol vehicle.
I advised Smith of his Miranda Rights, and he stated that he understood. Smith stated that he had just purchased the motorcycle and was out test-driving it, but did not have any of the paperwork with him on the motorcycle.
Smith originally stated that he did not know I was chasing him, but later admitted he saw me and was trying to get back to his kids. Smith stated that he did not know what was in the baggie located in his pants pocket, but stated that his drug of choice was methamphetamine.
The motorcycle was towed from the scene by Smith Wrecker Service, and I
transported Smith to the Lonoke County Detention Center to be booked in on his charges.
I transported the substance located on Smith to the Arkansas State Police Troop A Headquarters. The substance was weighed at headquarters, and it weighed approximately 3 grams. The substance was logged into evidence, where it will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further analysis.
Smith was charged with the following:
-5-54-125(d)(3): FLEEING - FELONY - VEHICLE OR CONVEYANCE - SUBSTANTIAL DANGER OF DEATH -5-64-419(b)(1)(B): POSSESS CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SCHED I,II METH COCAINE = 2G - 10G
